Secondary votes in Saxony-Anhalt
The secondary vote determines how strongly a party is represented in the state parliament. A party that stays below five per cent does not enter, unless it wins a constituency outright.

The seat distribution is an interim figure, not a forecast: it shows what the state parliament would look like if counting stopped where it stands. Whoever is currently leading in a constituency counts as holding it, including where counting is still under way. The seat numbers therefore shift over the course of the evening — unlike the statement about the five per cent threshold, which only claims anything once it is mathematically settled.
